Keep your vehicle safe on the road and know what to do when your tire pops.
Car trouble can be scary. You're driving around minding your own business, when suddenly, your tire pops. There's a loud pop, and your heart begins to race. The car swerves, and you start to panic. However, the more prepared you are, the better able you are to handle the situation at hand. Learn what you need to do when your tire pops on the road so that you can stay safe.
Regain Control of the Car.
Don't slam on the brakes. When your tire pops, your first reaction is likely to try to stop. However, you must stabilize your vehicle before you can stop. In order to regain control, you must keep your foot on the gas and your hands firmly on the steering wheel. The car will pull toward the side with the popped tire, however, do your best to maintain control. Once you've stabilized the vehicle, then you can slow down until you're able to come to a stop.
Pull Over to the Side of the Road.
A popped tire is dangerous. You can't just stop in the middle of the road. Once you've stabilized your car, pull over. While it's best to get off the freeway, any safe shoulder will do. That way you can replace your tire and get back to your drive.
Call for Help.
Once you're on the roadside, ensure that you're visible, so that other cars don't hit you. Put on your hazard lights and tie a brightly colored cloth to your vehicle. Change your tire or call for help so that you can get back on the road safely.
